Lime Crime Velvetine Review

My first ever blog post! Are you ready?? I know I am, and also a little nervous... Hopefully this won't be just completely awful and if it is I apologize in advance. Okay!

First off the packaging is amazing! Definitely makes you feel like you've just recieved something special. Before placing my order I had heard a lot of negative things about this brand which definitely made me hesitant to order anything but I had been admiring these lip products for quite awhile so I decided to take the risk. Some of the negative things I heard about was how long it took to receive an order and they were right! It took three weeks to finally receive my package.
I ordered two of the lip velvetines which are describes on the website as a "ground-breaking formula that goes on liquid and dries completely matte. Touch-proof, transfer-proof, long-wearing and utterly addictive!" The colors I purchased are Wicked a matte deep burgundy and Cashmere a grey beige.

Here are some close up swatches on my lips.
                                                                Wicked
                                                          Cashmere

At first when I put on cashmere it looked super weird and really unnatural but then after getting used to it, it starts to look like a nuetral lip color. I guess it's because my natural lip color is really rosey and this color is very pale so it's shocking at first.

Here are some photos of how they look overall. I kept my makeup very natural and only used a BB cream.

When I first opened them the first color I tried on was cashmere since it was lighter just incase the darker color stained my lips. It was pretty easy to apply using the applicator but it wasn't as opaque as I thought it would be. It took two coates to cover my natural rose lip color. It dried on very matte and I really liked it but I went to put some EOS lip balm on top and it completely wiped off the color! I guess I discovered the magic earaser for lip velvetines!

Then I tried on Wicked which was the color I was most excited about. Let me tell you, this color is a bitch to apply. I would say I'm pretty darn good at applying dark lipsticks, I never use a lip brush and just apply them from the bullet with little to no problem but I got this shit EVERYWHERE! I got it on my hand which led to it getting on my cheek and my counter top... I always heard how easy these were to apply with the applicator it has, even the dark colors. No! They were liars. So after some makeup wipes and concealer I finally got it to look decent. At least decent enough from a normal distance and not my 10x mirror.

We were going out to dinner with my parents and I thought this was the perfect time to test it out! When I went to kiss my boyfriend of course he protested at first but then I told him that it was transfer proof so he gave a smooch and his lips were a little red... I guess it's not "parted lips" kiss transfer proof, woops! At dinner it lasted though wine and appetizers but I had the chicken Alfredo that night and wicked Velvetine lost the battle to that delicious creamy sauce and at the end of the night I was left with no lipstick...

Overall I really like the velvetines. I don't think I'll be purchasing anymore colors though. I'm definitely not "addicted" like Lime Crime claims. I've just been obsessed with these two colors so it makes me like them no matter what. I appreciate how they dry matte and don't transfer for the most part because I tend to touch my face a lot and hate when lipstick gets on my teeth. It's definitely not a magical holy grail product for me though. Who knows though, they might come out with a new color that I just have to have. I would recommend the velvetines if you like a color because they are very nice, matte, true colors but it's not worth it if you're not in love with a color.

I hope this was helpful and enjoyable to read!
